The SRTF Delivers Wheat Polypropylene Sacks for Farmers in Aleppo Countryside

Turkey – Thursday, 2 November 2017 - The SRTF Management Unit delivered a large quantity of polypropylene sacks to the implementing entity (IE), of its national "Reestablishing Seed Production and Multiplication Programmes in Aleppo, Idleb, and Hama Governorates" in the Aleppo countryside today.  The delivery took place today at a zero point on the Turkish-Syrian border.

The delivery included 200,000 wheat polypropylene sacks to be used by local farmers in Aleppo countryside for packing, transporting and storing their harvested grains. The delivered quantity is one of several deliveries under this project, which aims to address a series of problems facing the agricultural sector and to protect the local wheat and other grain harvests in the rural areas of the three governorates. The Project is also providing local farmers with approximately 5,000 tons of screened and treated wheat seed to help them cultivate about 20,000 hectares of farmable land, which will produce roughly 80,000 tons of wheat for flour.

At a total cost of EUR 3.3 million, project seeks to address the lack of reliable equipment, consumables and logistics. Overall, it is expected to directly benefit about 9.250 people the targeted areas. Life quality of the entire local population of the targeted areas is expected to improve thanks to the increasing availability of food, particularly bread and legumes.
