The SRTF Delivers Small Waste Collection Bins and Tools to Hama and Aleppo Governorates

Turkey – Wednesday, 16 November 2016 – The SRTF Management Unit today delivered a large quantity of waste collection tools and small plastic containers and bins to the implementing entities of its “Solid Waste Management and Rubble Removal in 10 Communities of Hama Governorate” project and “Solid Waste Management in 10 Communities of Aleppo Governorate” project. The delivery took place at a zero point on the Turkish-Syrian border in coordination with the Turkish authorities.
Worth approximately EUR 2.16 million, the first project aims to reinstate the waste management sector in the targeted communities, enabling it to overcome the health problems and the spread of diseases associated with the pile up of waste and degradation hygiene levels in these areas.
The second project, worth EUR 1.75 million, also aims to combat the proliferation of diseases resulting from waste accumulation caused by the regime’s suspension of waste removal and sanitation services in opposition held areas.
The two projects are expected to directly benefit more than 180,000 people.
