The contribution was announced by Mr Marwan Al Ghanem, Director of Operations of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, during the Steering Board Meeting held in Berlin, Germany, on 25 May 2016.

The SRTF's Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, welcomed Kuwait’s additional contribution as “yet another generous gesture of support towards the people of Syria.” He thanked the State of Kuwait, adding that its contributions “express confidence in the Fund’s ability to manage its resources transparently and successfully.” Eng. Khabbaz explained that: “Kuwait’s second contribution, along with those of other donor countries, will enable the SRTF to develop more recovery projects that will help reduce the suffering of the Syrian people inside Syria.” He underlined the importance of Kuwait’s role as an Arab donor, along that of the United Arab Emirates, in showing Arab solidarity with the Syrian people. He said: “hundreds of thousands of Syrians are already benefiting from the Fund’s interventions and many more will benefit thanks to the continuing support of these donor countries.”
