The Kingdom of the Netherlands Contributes an Additional Euro 2 Million to the Resources of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund

Gaziantep - Thursday, 26 November 2015 - The Management Unit of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced today that the Kingdom of the Netherlands has contributed an additional Euro 2 million to the resources of the fund. The contribution was confirmed in a recent letter from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation to the chair of the SRTF Steering Board.

 

The Director-General of the SRTF Management Unit, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, welcomed the increased contribution of the Netherlands as “a vote of confidence in the important role played by the SRTF in alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people inside Syria.” Thanking the Government of the Netherlands, he underlined the importance of its contribution in encouraging other donor countries to follow suit. He said “the Netherlands is the second donor, following the United States, in confirming its increased contribution to the fund.” The US had confirmed its additional contribution of US$15 million during the 5th Meeting of the SRTF Steering Board held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 12 November 2015.

 

The Netherlands had already contributed Euro 2 million, while the US provided US $15 million to the initial resources of the SRTF,, which reached a total of Euro 90.2 as of 31 December 2014. The other SRTF donor countries are Germany, United Arab Emirates, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Japan, United Kingdom, Kuwait, France and Italy.
