Support for Health Services in the Northern Aleppo Countryside – Phase VI

Based on the successes of its previous phases, the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) launched Phase VI of the “Support for Health Services in the Northern Aleppo Countryside” project, to continue addressing the gaps in the Health sector in Aleppo Governorate.

 

Through this project and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Aleppo Health Directorate, the SRTF aims to maintain the delivery of services and sustain operations at the same facilities under Phase V, while supporting the relocation and expansion of a dialysis department at Ibn Rushd Hospital.

 

This is expected to:

  • Ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential health care services across Northern Aleppo.
  • Improve access to reliable primary health care and specialised services Aleppo Governorate, including burns treatment.
  • Continue improving the Ambulance Response Network services.
  • Increase the availability and reliability of the available health information.
  • Address the current gaps within the Health sector.

 

This will be achieved by implementing the following:

  • Maintaining the provision of consultations, surgeries, diagnostics and pharmaceutical services at the PHCC, hospital and Burns Treatment Hospital.
  • Continuing the provision of specialised reconstructive and burn care at the Burns Treatment Hospital.
  • Relocating and expanding the Dialysis Department at Ibn Rushd Hospital, including all the necessary rehabilitation works, to improve services to patients and reduce pressure on the existing hospital building.
  • Maintaining emergency response services and expanding outreach, through the full operation readiness of the Ambulance Response Network.
  • Sustaining diagnostic and surveillance functions critical for the detection of and response to communicable diseases at the epidemiology laboratory.
  • Ensuring the continuous and reliable production and supply of medical oxygen through the oxygen generator, to the supported facilities.
  • Maintaining the safe collection, sterilisation and disposal of medical waste at the two medical waste treatment facilities.
  • Procuring and providing essential medical equipment, consumables and medication to continue the provision of quality health care services and address critical shortages in the facilities.
  • Providing training sessions and technical support to all medical personnel and staff at the waste treatment facilities.
  • Covering the operational costs of all facilities and staff.
  • Covering the maintenance and operational costs of an oxygen generator.

 

This is anticipated to:

  • Ensure the continuity of critical health care services.
  • Improve access to equitable, quality primary, secondary and specialised health services.
  • Strengthen the resilience and operational capacity of the local health system by sustaining the general health services, hospitals, laboratory, ambulance services, oxygen production and medical waste management systems.
  • Expand access to life-saving dialysis services.
  • Enhance institutional capacity and facility staff’s technical skills.
  • Safeguarding environmental health by maintaining functional medical waste treatment facilities, reducing risks of infection and pollution.
  • Enhance governance and support the digital transformation of the Aleppo Health Directorate.
  • Ensure sustainability and transition towards national ownership.

 

With a budget of EUR 1.10 million, the project is expected to directly benefit around 173,000 patients and 276 health personnel, with an estimated 865,000 individuals indirectly, over a period of 18 months with an additional three months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation.
