Supporting Health Services in the Northern Aleppo Countryside – Phase II

With an increasing population, currently estimated at 1.3 million people in Northeastern Aleppo, more pressure is placed on health services systems to carter for patients with quality services, and even more on the existing Ambulance Response Network which is facing challenges in meeting emergency requests in various locations. And due to this increased pressure and the need for a timely response to emergencies in the health service sector,  the SRTF is implementing a second phase of its health project that builds on the outcomes of two previously successful health projects with the aim to support the health system and improve the ambulances response network with existing maintenance center, and to continue supporting the operations of one health center which was previously established under an SRTF health project to meet the demand for improved health services in the region.

Accordingly, under phase II of this health project, the following activities will be implemented:

I- Ambulance Response Network and Spare Parts:

The project will procure two ambulances (through a transfer of assets process from a previous SRTF project) and the two will join to form a fleet of ten existing ambulances that in total (twelve) will serve seven targeted health facilities. Notably, the ambulances all will undergo technical maintenance and will be re-equipped with the missing equipment and consumables to be ready to handle all emergency cases. The ambulances will be linked with the health facilities who will benefit from the shared ambulance services according to the catchment area.

  1. Continued Support for a targeted Health Center:

The health center was launched in 2018 and now caters for an average of 3,800 people monthly. The project will provide comprehensive support for this center to enable it to continue to provide services with the following objectives:

  1. Ensure the continuation of medical services and consultations provided by the center, including laboratory and pharmacy services.
  2. Enhance healthcare programmes to include:
  • Child Health
  • Reproductive Health
  • Communicable Diseases
  • Non-communicable Diseases
  • Nutrition
  • Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
  1. Ensure the continuation of technical training for medical staff to increase their capacities to deal with childhood illnesses care (CIC) or integrated management of childhood illnesses (IMCI), maternity care, antenatal care (ANC), prenatal care (PNC), family planning (FP), non-communicable disease care (NCDC), as well as malnutrition survey and management.
  2. Provide force account and running cost support for health center operations (includes operational costs of health center maintenance fees including electricity, internet, stationery, cleaning materials, etc.).

III. Supplemental Ambulance Services:

Under this project, additional support will be provided to ambulance services with three portable incubators for infant referrals which will be distributed in three selected locations, as needed.
