Provision of PHC Services and Clean Water Supply for Rural Communities – Phase II

In light of the great success of Phase I of the same project, and in response to Ar-Raqqa residents’ need to secure a normal life after their return to their homes post the conflict, there was still an urgent need to reach more communities with access and improvements to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and health services that are key to support returnees to resume normal life activities in Ar-Raqqa. Damage caused by the fighting remains widespread and basic services are unavailable or are extremely limited.

The “Provision of PHC Services and Clean Water Supply for Rural Communities – Phase II” builds on phase I by introducing WASH and health services to seven communities in Ar-Raqqa Governorate. It also supports some of the first phase's activities by maintaining operations in the existing three public health centers (PHCs) and their ambulances to ensure the smooth flow of operations.

Through this project, which will also be implemented by the same NGO partner, the SRTF will address challenges faced by residents through the following activities:

  1. Maintaining the fixed caravan health clinics and ambulances already supplied, set up, and equipped under the first phase to deliver primary health care services.
  2. Provision of four fixed caravan health clinics and ambulances in four new communities in Ar-Raqqa Governorate to deliver primary health care services.
  3. Provision of clean potable water to 2,000 households in targeted communities across Ar-Raqqa sub-district.
  4. Solid waste management by renting trash collection trucks, waste collectors, and proper disposal of solid and medical waste contamination.
  5. Implementation of hygiene awareness campaigns.

Worth EUR 3.7 million, the intervention is the SRTF’s second to address health and WASH services to residents of Ar-Raqqa Governorate. Implemented over a six-month period, the support will provide access to primary healthcare and WASH services to 11,334 households in the targeted communities and will benefit a population of up to 67,986 across several rural communities including the three locations that were already supported in the first phase.
