The Us Confirms Its Pledge to Make an Additional Us$15 Million Contribution to the Syria Recovery Trust Fund

Istanbul – Gaziantep – 12 November 2015 – The delegation of the United States of America today confirmed its pledge to make an additional contribution of US$15 million to the Syrian Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF). The announcement was made during the fifth meeting of the SRTF Steering Board held in Istanbul, Turkey. The pledge was first announced by Antony Blinken, Deputy Secretary of State in Manama, Bahrain, on 31 October 2015. It is part of nearly $100 million in new assistance to the Syrian opposition, which brings the total support the United States has committed and is providing to the Syrian opposition to approximately $500 million since 2012. to approximately $500 million. The United States has also contributed over $4.5 billion in humanitarian assistance since the start of the Syrian crisis.

 

Affirming the US Government’s ongoing commitment to the SRTF, Mona Yacoubian, USAID’s Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Middle East said, “we are so proud to be a part of this multi-donor initiative that has already reached two million Syrians with support for essential services—like restoring access to electricity and rebuilding hospitals.” The Director-General of the SRTF hailed the pledge as “a crucial step to boost the activities and performance of the SRTF inside Syria.” He said “the leadership demonstrated by the US will pave the way for additional support from other SRTF donor countries.”

 

As an original donor to the SRTF, the US initially contributed US$ $15 million in 2013. The fund was capitalized at Euro 90.2 million as of 31 December 2014.

 

The other donor countries are Germany, United Arab Emirates, Denmark

, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Japan, United Kingdom, Kuwait, France, Italy and the Netherlands.
