The SRTF Receives Additional Contributions of EUR 14M from Germany, France and Denmark

Frankfurt -Thursday, 14 December 2017 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced today that it has received additional contributions of Euro 5 million and EUR 6.5 million from Germany and France respectively. The fresh funds raise the total amount of paid contributions from 12 donor countries to the SRTF to approximately EUR 183.4 million. Additionally, Denmark pledged of an additional contribution of 20 million Danish Krones (approximately EUR 2.5 million).

 

Commenting his country’s additional contribution, Ambassador Ekkehard Brose the Special Envoy for Crisis Prevention and Stabilization of Germany underlined that, ”The SRTF is the indispensable multilateral instrument of stabilization and recovery in Syria. Germany shall continue to back these efforts to help reduce the suffering of the Syrian people.” With this latest contribution, Germany – one of the three Original Donors of the Fund – has increased its support to the SRTF to approximately EUR 38.7 million. 

 

The additional donor contributions clearly reflect their confidence in the optimal quality of the SRTF as an effective mechanism to channel donor funding for recovery efforts in Syria. The Results of the SRTF interventions over the past three years speak for themselves in terms of positive impact on the lives of millions of people inside Syria.

 

On his part, the Director-General of the SRTF, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the unwavering support of Germany, France and Denmark and vowed to further enhance the Fund’s effectiveness and impact on the lives of millions of Syrian people. He said: “Today the SRTF is a solid and unique player on the stage of rehabilitation and recovery of key services upon which the lives of many Syrians depend.” He said: “Millions of Syrians are directly benefiting from SRTF projects; we are very proud to be providing this highly needed assistance.”

 

The new contribution will enable the fund to expand its programme of work over the coming year and to reach out to more Syrians in need. Towards this goal, the fund had recently also welcomed a pledge of an additional contribution of USD 20 million from the United States of America. Once paid, the additional contributions from the US and Denmark will bring the total amount of paid contributions up to over EUR 200 million.
