Denmark Contributes an Additional Dkk 25.8 Million (Approx. Euro 3.46 Million) to the Resources of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund

Gaziantep – Tuesday, 15 December 2015 – The Management Unit of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced today that the Kingdom of Denmark has contributed an additional 25.8 million Danish Krones (approximately Euro 3.46 million) to the resources of the fund. The contribution was confirmed in a recent letter from the Royal Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the chair of the SRTF Steering Board.

 

The Director-General of the SRTF Management Unit, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, expressed gratitude for the generous increase contribution of Denmark, which completes the additional contributions of the Nordic donors following the recently confirmed increase contributions of Sweden and Finland. He underlined the importance of “completing the increase contributions of the Nordic donors” as “a milestone in the efforts of the international community to enable the SRTF to continue its vital assistance to the war-torn civilian communities inside Syria.”

 

Denmark is the sixth nation, following the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom and Finland to confirm its increased contribution to the fund. The US contributed US$ 15 million while the Netherlands, Sweden, UK and Finland provided Euro 2 million, Euro 1.7 million, Euro 6.27 and Euro 3 million respectively.

 

Denmark had already contributed about Euro 3.3 million to the initial resources of the SRTF, which reached a total of Euro 90.2 as of 31 December 2014. Besides the US, Netherlands, Sweden, UK, Finland and Denmark, the other SRTF donor countries are Germany, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Kuwait, France and Italy.
