Electricity Supplies Restored in Several Locations of Aleppo and Idleb Governorates

Turkey – Wednesday, 15 March 2017 -  The SRTF Management Unit announced today that a project Implementing Entity has restored electricity power supplies to several communities in Aleppo and Idleb Governorates. The resumed supplies followed massive repair and maintenance works carried out under its “Rehabilitation and Maintenance of the High Voltage Grid in Selected Areas of Aleppo Governorate” project.

The completed works include rehabilitation of a major electricity substation in Aleppo Governorate that was heavily damaged during the conflict. The works at this substation included replacement of damaged parts, installation of generators, provision basket cranes, battery chargers, batteries, transformer oil, etc. Repair works, including medium voltage switchgear cubicles, were carried out in another substation. Maintenance works were also performed on a main power transmission line to Idleb, ending a long period of outages in the two governorates. It is estimated that the cost of these repair and maintenance works have so far reached about EUR 1 million.

Worth approximately EUR 3.5 million, the SRTF project provides for maintenance of three high voltage sub-stations with six 230/66 kV transformers and seven high voltage sub-stations with fourteen 66/20 kV transformers in order to prevent the breakdown of transformers. Through the urgently needed maintenance of the network and replacement of spare parts, it ensures the grid's regular power supply for some 2 million beneficiaries.
