The SRTF Delivers Safety Cloths for Solid Waste Removal Operations in Aleppo Governorate

Turkey – Wednesday, 1 February 2017 – The SRTF Management Unit today delivered the first batch of safety cloths to protect workers involved in solid waste removal operations under its “Solid Waste Management in 10 Communities of Aleppo Governorate” project. The delivered materials included winter and summer uniforms as well as winter and summer safety shoes for cleaning workers and drivers, rain coats, summer uniforms for watchmen, head hats and safety vests of different sizes. The safety cloths were delivered to the project's implementing entity by a local supplier.

 

Worth about EUR 1.75 million, the project aims to combat the proliferation of diseases resulting from waste accumulation caused by the regime’s suspension of waste removal and sanitation services in opposition held areas.

 

To the benefit of some 80,000 inhabitants of the targeted communities, the project is expected to Improve public health through pest control and prevention of the spread of diseases, such as leishmaniosis and cholera. It also seeks to prevent environmental pollution through solid waste and rubble removal, ensuring proper landfill waste management.
